In Edith Hamilton’s Mythology, the story of Cronus illustrates the explicit violence and fear in Cronus.  Cronus fears his kids will overthrow him so he eats his kids. “…Cronus had learned that one of his children was destined some day to dethrone him and he thought to go against fate by swallowing them as soon as they were born.” This quote supports my thesis statement because it explains what happened between him and his kids. Cronus is a bad father; his wife is lucky she got to switch Zeus with a rock. “But when Rhea bore Zeus, her sixth child, she succeeded in having him secretly carried off to Crete, while she gave her husband a great stone covered in swaddling clothes which he supposed was the baby…” This explains the explicit violence and ruthlessness in Cronus.

Thesis Statement

In the painting, Cronus Devouring His Children, by Francisco de Goya, Cronus devouring his children illustrates how much fear or insanity about losing power.

In the picture,  Paul Manship Prometheus Fountain in front of the Rockefeller Center in NYC, prometheus on the mountain surrounded by water symbolizes equality in land and water.

10 tweets assignment

We’ve been doing an assignment about the mythologic characters.  We each got assigned a character and we couldn’t tell anyone who we were. Our class improvised and used twitter to leave tweets/clues to help let people guess who we are. I was Icarus,  known for escaping crete and ended up dieing because of stupidity.

We got a spreadsheet to keep track of who we thought everyone was.

We left 9 tweets on twitter and then changed our picture to our charcter.  I only had 8 though.  Here they are.

    Runner Book Review

The book I’m reading is called “Runner.” This book is about a senior high kid named Chance, who’s parents just had a divorce. He does good in school, although he barley listens, he has A’s and B’s in all of his classes. Chance is a runner, he was one of the best on the cross-country, when he was on the team. After he quit the team, he still ran, and that’ how it started….

Chance was a good boy, had a job and helped paid the bills. But his dad can barley keep a job, and he was a drunk. But no matter how much he drank, Chance’s dad never yelled or hit Chance. Chance’s dad was a good man, he went to fight in Viet nam and he served his country well.

When Chance’s dad loses his job, Chance gets offered a job, for transporting packages. Though he didn’t know what was in them, and honestly he didn’t care, it had a good pay and easy hours. All he had to do is take a backpack on his daily route that he ran, stop at the mohoggany tree, and search the rocks next to it for a package. Somedays there was a package, somedays there wasn’t. But after he got the package he would run back to the marina (because he lived on a boat called the tiny dancer) and put the package (that was in the backpack) in his locker while he took a shower. after he got out, the package was gone…

He did this for 7 months, $200 a week, for 7 months. He could’ve been caught at anytime. but he wasn’t.

After he told the fat man who set him up for the job, the fat man told his boss and a couple of weeks later, he was murdered…So then Chance started getting worried, he thought he was going to get murdered too. He was getting paranoid. Worring about it everyday, until he told his dad. His dad felt the packages and figured out what it was. It was plastic explosives. He was helping terrorists bomb a target in Seattle. He was smuggling 5-10 pounds a day of plastic explosives for 7 months.

His dad told him to tell one of his friends, someone who went to the army with him, but after he told them, it was too late the terrorists found the tiny dancer that was storing the plastic explosives, and took it off to the lake….

Chance got in a helicopter to try and find the tiny dancer before anything bad happened. They found it…….

I liked this book, when I started reading this book, I couldn’t stop. I would recemend this book for people who like thrillers.

    Quotation assignment

It is not the biggest, the brightest or the best that will survive, but those who adapt the quickest.
    -Charles Darwin-

    Charles Darwin

Charles Darwin was born on February 12 (1806-1882). Darwin wrote world famous books like “The Origin of Species” and “Voyage of The Beagle” which was about his journey around the world on the ship called the Beagle.

He said this quote because he’s a naturalist, he studies wildlife. Out of all the topics he researches, he has payed attention to this subject of adaptation.

This quote means that if you can adapt, you can survive. This is true to every being on this earth because if you can’t adapt, you will die.

I picked this quote because I believe it is true.
